About American Councils

The world’s most successful institutions and determined nations work with American Councils for International Education through cultural exchange, language training, and professional development.

Since 1974, our educational portfolio has grown to include 184 countries important to national security, prosperity, and peace. Our programs are backed by thorough research to ensure their quality and integrity. Our participants represent a spectrum of learners, from high school through the postdoctoral and professional level.

To date, we have built a community of more than 120,000 alumni, including national leaders, ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, and CEOs.

The American Councils’s Slovak office opened in the fall of 2018, at a time when Slovakia and United States held centennial celebrations of their diplomatic relations. Our first major project is Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX). FLEX is a scholarship program fully funded by the U.S. Department of State which enables high-school students to spend an academic year in the United States.

In 2020, we also launched Camp Courage - a 6 day camp for high school students with a goal to engage them in active learning about the critically important role that civically engaged youth play in society.
